It is with full hearts that we celebrate the extraordinary life of Catherine Jemima “Ina” (Simpson) Nelms— a woman whose kindness, warmth and boundless positivity left an unforgettable mark on everyone she met. Ina passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025 in her 101st year, at Beattie Manor Wardsville. She was born December 17, 1924, in Glencoe to the late Fredrick and Jemina (McEachran) Simpson. Ina is the last of her generation and was a mother, grandma, nana, sister, aunt, friend and angel on earth. Ina married her best friend and love of her life Vernon Charles Nelms (2009) on September 14, 1949 and is survived by her 3 children: Leanne (late Richard 2025), David (Maggie) and Alicia (late Steven 2025). She was the most proud nana to Aiden ( Hayley) Dylan (Belen), Maria, late Matthew (2024) (Jessica), Drew and Brenden. She was dedicated to family and was cherished and well-loved by both the Simpson and Nelms Clans. Predeceased by her siblings Frances McCallum (Duncan), Dorothy Parker (Harvey), Douglas Simpson (Edna) and Stewart Simpson (Betty). If you had the joy of knowing Ina, you knew she saw life through a beautifully bright lens. To her, the glass wasn’t just half full — it was overflowing with hope, gratitude and joy. She had an incredible gift for making others feel seen, heard, and loved. Even in her final days, Ina’s thoughts were never far from those she cared about, always checking in, always giving love — a true reflection of her generous spirit. Ina’s life was rooted in service, faith and community. Whether it was opening her home (and her heart) to others, offering a warm meal at her ever-welcoming dinner table, or volunteering her time with the Church, Legion, Rotary Club, or Historical Society, Ina made it her mission to bring people together. Her strong faith was a guiding light, and she was a proud supporter and active participant in church events and outreach. She didn’t just show up — she poured herself into everything she did, lifting others up along the way. Ina’s legacy is one of connection, compassion and love in action. She leaves behind a community made better by her presence — and forever touched by her kindness. In Keeping with Ina’s wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 4th from 4-6 p.m. at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe.
