Richard Buckenham

Peacefully at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, on Friday, December 20, 2013, Richard Buckenham of Glencoe, passed away at the age of 78.  Survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion (Jones) Buckenham and his 3 children, Brent (Lori) of Carseland, AB, Brenda Lewis (Kenn) of Strathroy, and Brad (Terra) of Kitchener.  Loved by his grandchildren, Geoff and Robert Buckenham, Andrew Parsons, Kaley Lewis, Alexandra and Jorja Buckenham.  He was also grandfather and great grandfather to several extended family members.  Son of the late Russell and Mary (Leverton) Buckenham. He farmed in Zone Township during his younger adult life.  He served on the Zone Township Council and later became Reeve and clerk-treasurer.  He was a hockey fanatic and cheered for the Red Wings.  In 1974 he went to work at Fennell Lumber in Newbury and worked there until 1997 when he retired and moved to Glencoe in 1976.  Richard was involved with service clubs, church choir and served several years as treasurer of Trinity United Church in Glencoe until 2007 when he had to retire due to illness.  He had many life challenges including polio, Parkinson’s disease and finally cancer.  May he rest in peace.  Cremation has taken place.  Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe on Friday, December 27 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A private family interment will be held.  Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Glencoe or the charity of your choice.
