Peacefully and surrounded by his family, at home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, Hugh Allan Fletcher of Appin passed away in his 91st year. Beloved husband of the late Nona Marie (Wildfong) Fletcher. Loving father of Sharon (Greg), Allan (Vicky), Beth (Tony) and Nancy (Rick). Proud Papa of Megan and Ben Fletcher, Jack, Jordan and Katelynn Horvath, Grant and Heather Donkers. Predeceased by his parents, Milton and Catherine Fletcher, brother Jack Fletcher, sister Phyllis Gillies, brothers-in-law Stan Gillies, and Mike Howlett, and granddaughter Rachael Lynn Fletcher. Fondly remembered by his sister Dorinne Howlett, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Fletcher. Also missed by many nephews, nieces and friends. Hugh spent a few years teaching and then found his long-term career in construction with Ellis-Don. Working on various projects from University of Guelph residence to Grand Theatre renovation to Victoria Hospital to the Art Gallery to Roberts Research building to London Convention Centre from 1964 to retirement in 1995. Hugh loved playing and watching many sports including golf, curling and hockey. However, his favourite was baseball; playing for many teams from Macksville Fastball team in 1947 to Strathroy Royals from 1954-1958, to the London Majors from 1958-1964. Later he enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play hockey, do karate, and of course, baseball. Hugh was an active participant in his community and a devoted member of the Appin Presbyterian church where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and serving as an Elder and Clerk of Session for many years. His unwavering belief in God influenced his life and brought him peace and comfort in his last days. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe on Thursday, July 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Appin Presbyterian Church (54 Wellington Ave, Appin) on Friday July 4th 2025 at 11a.m. with Rev. Amanda MacMillan officiating. Interment to follow at the Appin Cemetery. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Hugh’s honour may consider the Appin Presbyterian Church or Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation .
