Peacefully surrounded by his family at Four Counties Health Services, Newbury on Saturday January 24, 2026, John “ Paul” Shields passed away in his 65th year. Loving husband to Patricia. Paul will be missed by his children and grandchildren; Jamie (Brandie), Ainsley , Adalyn and Anderson; Ben (Jenn), Ayla and Rowan. Sam (Kris), and Halle. Dear brother to Melanie Shields (Chris). Uncle to Rebecca (Alex) , Danielle (Todd) Jamie-Lee, Brad(Mike), Nicole (Curtis), Davis(Lane) and Chris(Megan) and great uncle to Carter, Cameron and Logan. Son-in-law to Willie Hoefnagels and brother-in-law to Marianne(Len) and Carolann(Mike). Predeceased by his parents John and Glenda Shields and father-in-law Morris Hoefnagels. Paul grew up playing hockey, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life, especially as a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also loved cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and the Denver Broncos. A talented guitar player, a proud member of the Odd Fellows, and known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Paul’s family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Matthew Wu and the staff at Four Counties Health Services for their care and support. Following Paul wishes Cremation has taken place. A private Odd Fellows Service will be held at 1:30 and a Celebration of Life to follow from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 at The Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe. Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Bullets Minor Hockey Association or Four Counties Health Service Foundation.
