At Four Counties Health Services, Newbury on Sunday, April 15, 2018, Steve Kucera of Alvinston passed away peacefully in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Uhnak) for nearly 63 years. Dear father of Janet (Ken) Dunlop, Kathy (Jim) Thomson, Ken Kucera (Jackie) and late Linda Sparling (Les) and grandfather of Michael (Katie), Mark, Jennifer Dunlop, Kelly (Brad) Anderson, Krystal (Cody) Wasson, Kyle Thomson and Melissa Sparling (Mike Couture). Loved by his great-grandchildren Logan, Brynlee and Alanna. Survived by his brother Frank (Betty) Kucera and his sister Jean Kucera-Rose (Keith) as well as several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 3232 River Street, Alvinston on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Garnier Church, 244 Stella Street, Glencoe on Thursday, April 19th at 10:30 a.m. Rev. D. Matthew Bedard presiding. Interment to follow at St. Matthews Cemetery, Alvinston. Memorial donations may be made to “Raise the Roost Campaign” (cheques payable to Municipality of Brooke/Alvinston) or charity of your choice. Steve was born in Montreal, August 27, 1931. He received Catholic education learning English, French and Slovak. His family moved to the Alvinston area in January 1939 and he considered himself an honour graduate from High school in one day, as he was needed to work on the family farm. He had various labour jobs in his early years and earned his mechanics license. He married Helen in 1955 and opened a Fina station in 1957. On March 17, 1957 he started the Case Franchise known today as Kucera Farm Supply. He was a member of Rotary for 48 years and had served as president twice and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a community man having been involved with Curling, Multicultural Committee for the Federal Government, Municipal Council for 19 years, Alvinston Firemen for 12 years, and Conservation Authority for 14 years, Building chairman of Alvinston Arena in 1976. He had received Contribution medal in 1992, Senior of the year award in 2003, Governor General’s award and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee award in 2012.
