leachAt Four Counties Health Services, Newbury on Thursday, November 3, 2016, Gordon Francis Leach of Glencoe passed away in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Daisy and loving father of Judie (David) Bennett and Heather (Andrew) Boyd. Proud grandpa of Dawson, Holly, Mason and Jaden Bennett, Emily, Sarah, Hannah and Wyatt Boyd. Dear brother of Donald (Ruth) Leach and Nancy (Jack) Sexsmith. Gord graduated from UWO in 1961 and enjoyed a 33 year teaching career at Glencoe District High School with various positions of responsibility. His teaching awards include the Ken St. John Memorial award (Middlesex County) and the Pete Beach award (OFSAA) and he was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario. He was commissioned in the Canadian Army in 1963 serving with # 408 Glencoe CC and several summers at Ipperwash and Base Borden. Gord was a long-serving Board member of Trinity United Church in Glencoe, Millstone Manor Non Profit Housing, Quest Centre Employment Services, and Volunteer Leader with Canadian Blood Services, an active member of the Glencoe District Lions Club, serving as secretary, president, Zone Chair and chair of the Club’s annual CNIB Canvass and of the Canadian Flag project. He was honoured to run with Terry Fox through the City of London in 1980 and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Relatives and friends will be received at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes street, Glencoe on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7th at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Cheryl Bolton officiating. Interment to follow at the Oakland Cemetery. Lions Club service Sunday evening at 6:45p.m at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Glencoe or Pancreatic Cancer Canada.
