Peacefully at Babcock Community Care Centre on Friday August 9th , 2024 , Edna Abbott (Blain) passed away in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husbands Adair Blain and Phil Abbott. Dear mother to Marie (Dan) McNaughton, Charlie (Deanna) Blain, Bev (Ron) Kelly, Dan (Kieu Pham) Blain and step-mother to Mike (Deborah) Abbott, Bonnie (Mike) Walls, and the late Wayne and Lorrie Abbott. Edna will be missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edna was the daughter of Edward and Margaret Smith who immigrated to Canada from England as part of the Dr. Barnardo commitment to find orphans a new home. She had a fulfilling life and career in Newbury as she worked at the local grocery store, serving under four different owners throughout the years. Edna also took pride in her work as an Avon lady and at the Newbury Post Office. Despite her busy schedule, Edna found time to give back to her community, she dedicated countless hours to helping at the Legion. Throughout her life, Edna was the glue that held everything together, She never missed a Birthday , Christmas, Graduation or family gathering, She loved her family and community. Her selflessness, reliability, and willingness to lend a hand earned her the reputation of being the go-to person for any task or favor. If you needed something done, you could always Just Ask Edna. Following Edna’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Glencoe. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 15, from 2p.m.-5p.m. at the Newbury Legion Br. 583. Memorial Donations may be made to Four Counties Health Services Foundation.
